Introduction
In the next few reviews, I will be smoking cigars that are part of the "Cigar Aficionado #1 Cigars of the Year Sampler." These cigars are some of the top-rated cigars of years past! The first cigar I am smoking out of the sampler is the Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill, awarded Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado in 2011. The Alec Bradley line has been a household name since the late 90s and is in cigar shops all over the world. At first glance, the cigar is a stunner with its dark brown Corojo wrapper.
I honestly can't believe it is August already. The summer months always seem to fly by, with this Summer being no exception. It is a beautiful sunny afternoon in Pennsylvania. I am enjoying my smoke on my back patio with my Pug and cat. I have paired my cigar with a Diet Coke (little too late in the day for coffee for me).
First Half
The first half of my smoke is more on the medium to bold side. There is quite a bit of spice to it as well as leather notes. The retrohale has some intense black pepper that honestly makes my eyes water. I am surprised by the amount of it. I typically am not very fond of intense pepper notes, but I am quite fond of this. My dog has started barking at the neighbor's Bulldog, who has decided to greet us on his evening walk. It makes me honestly want to get a second dog so mine can have a buddy. At the end of the first half, the intensity dies down, displaying more Earth tones and less spice.
Second Half
During the second half of my smoke, there is a welcome add of sweetness, which balances perfectly with the spice. There are also coffee notes and a little bit of chocolate. I feel like my nose may actually be running now due to the previous spice. I may need to bring tissues outside next time.
Burn/Draw
Perfect draw and burn throughout my smoke time. No touch-ups needed. Luckily, the wind is absent, too today.
Final
By far, the end of my smoke was my favorite part (flavor-wise). There is still that subtle sweetness that I enjoy, but also more added Earth tones. The spice has died down quite a bit, but it's still there slightly. I myself have never leaned towards spicier cigars, so this balance works perfectly well for me. I can understand the hype and praise this cigar received. Truly unique for its 1hr 45min smoke time!
