Pledge contains ultra-premium tobaccos from 3 different countries. The filler blend is Nicaraguan, the binder from Ecuador, and the dark, oily wrapper is a unique Connecticut Habano leaf grown right here in the U.S.A. This exquisitely crafted cigar begins with a surprising amount of spice and pepper that will command your attention. Soon after, it settles into a smooth, delectable smoke with notes of cocoa and creamy cedar. A hint of caramel sweetness and cinnamon keep things interesting along the way. The finish is noted with an increased sweetness, along with creamy oak, cocoa, topped with a touch of spice. This stick definitely earns its 98 rating.
1 x Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Maestro (6" x 52, ●●●●● Full, 96-Rated). Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2019 #1 Cigar of the Year. A collaboration between Boutique Blends and master blender AJ Fernandez. Boutique Blends' Quattro line is their most successful project to date. This Nicaraguan puro begins with notes of chocolate, coffee, red pepper, and earth. Halfway through, the pepper subsides, and the chocolate and earth notes take center stage. By the end of the smoke, the pepper returns along with a hint of sweet cedar. The fine balance of sweet, spice and earth notes, along with an ideal burn rate and temperature, all make for a highly pleasurable and harmonious smoke.
1 x E.P. Carrillo Encore Majestic (5 3/8" x 52, ●●●●○ Medium-Full, 96-Rated). Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2018 #1 Cigar Of The Year. Treating tobacco blending as much an art as a science, Carrillo sourced a wide variety of fine Nicaraguan longleaf aged in tercios, meaning tied into bundles within royal palm leaves, resulting in a smooth yet powerful smoke. The toothy, oily wrapper contains the aroma of rich tobacco and crisp fresh hay, thrilling the nose while the tongue detects a flourish of pepper during the cold draw test. Beginning dry and with deep notes of turned earth and charred oak, when first lit, the cigar's flavor soon brightens and expands to include black tea and sweet cream.
1 x Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado (6 1/2" x 54, ●●●●● Full, 96-Rated). Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2014 #1 Cigar Of The Year. This amazing smoke uses all ligero binder and filler tobacco from Nicaragua and an amazing Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper. The first light gives off billows of blue smoke, slathering the palate with a massive dose of ligero spice. The earthy introduction soon turns sweet as hints of coffee and dark chocolate become apparent and the spice and cedar notes further intensify. A smooth and highly satisfying smoke down to the nub.
1 x Casa Magna Colorado Robusto (5 ½” x 52, ●●●●● Full, 93-Rated). Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2008 #1 Cigar Of The Year. It is a Nicaraguan puro using leaves from both Esteli and the Jalapa Valley, but the clear winner here is the beautifully rustic red hued Colorado wrapper. It has a very earthy flavor profile which shifts throughout the cigar with flavor notes highlighting creaminess, almond butter, sweet cherries, caramel, warm spices, cedar, and leathery notes all joining the party. One really needs to pay attention during the smoking experience to taste them all.
