Made at the world-famous La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua under the supervision of none other than the master of flavored cigars himself, Jonathan Drew, Tabak Especial is set apart from the rest in that the tobacco isn’t simply flavored, but infused. The Dulce and Negra contain infused Nicaraguan filler and binder tobacco. For Dulce, the wrapper is an aged shade-grown Connecticut leaf, while the Negra variety sports a dark Connecticut Broadleaf maduro. Both boast an ideal balance of tobacco and coffee flavor, so even non-fans of flavored cigars will likely enjoy the unique taste.
These two blends begin with a rich backbone of raw tobacco and white pepper in the background. Hints of espresso and creamy chocolate maintain a presence in the background, and the finish is a lingering coffee flavor. Don’t let that scare you, though, as it isn’t a “synthetic topping” type of coffee flavor as you may have experienced with other flavored sticks, but rather a flavor as if the cigar had been lightly dipped into your cup of Joe before puffing. The Negra variety adds rich notes of dark cocoa and a bold sweetness, while the Dulce is cleaner and lighter, allowing the flavors of the infused fillers to shine through. Tabak Especial is a solid medium-bodied cigar, allowing it to pair beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or espresso. At 6” x 52, these Toros are a great way to secure a couple of solid hours of rich smoking enjoyment.
