For those who prefer to stay on the lighter side of things, Room 101 Ichiban Connecticut Toro seems like a no-brainer. Third in line to Ichiban Habano and Ichiban Maduro, Ichiban Connecticut is blended and crafted entirely by hand in the Dominican Republic for Room 101 mastermind Matt Booth. This 6” x 50 vitola uses a delicious blend of mild and smooth long filler from the Dominican Republic. The binder is Nicaraguan, and the star of the show (a.k.a. the wrapper) is a beautiful golden Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. While it may not be quite as busy as the other 2 blends in the series, Ichiban Connecticut makes a great cigar with which to slow down and relax.
Wearing the iconic Sakura blossom symbol which has become synonymous with the new Room 101, Ichiban Connecticut appears to be a pricey, special release cigar. While not pricey and not limited, Ichiban Connecticut certainly is special, and that adjective can easily be applied to the phenomenal construction of the cigar. The draw is smooth and easy, the burn is sharp, and each puff provides a plethora of flavorful smoke. Ichiban Connecticut displays all the standard characteristics of a classic Connecticut cigar, including a creamy feel on the palate, an earthy core, and subtle hints of wheat, wood, and raw tobacco. The blend is simple and mild, but the experience is nothing short of amazing.
If Room 101 ever made a cigar that would be considered perfect for beginners, Ichiban Connecticut is without a doubt that cigar. Easy on the palate, easy on the wallet, and easy to kick back with and enjoy at any time of day, Ichiban Connecticut is a wonderful all-around old-school style cigar. It pairs well with scotch, white wine, or medium-bodied beer, and is reminiscent of Connecticut cigars of old, such as Montecristo Classic and Macanudo. A Connecticut lover’s dream-come-true, Room 101 Ichiban Connecticut Toro is simply delightful, and makes a fantastic go-to cigar for any price-conscious connoisseur.
