Persian Queen Gryphon is the long-awaited offshoot to Persian King, the rustic value priced cigar from the father and son team of George and Guillermo Rico of Gran Habano. Hailing from Honduras and limited in production to just 500 boxes of 50 cigars, Persian Queen is rather special in that it is a true limited edition. Not only that, it is draped in two different wrapper leaves in barber pole fashion, making it as beautiful in appearance as it is delicious. For the blend, the binder and filler tobacco are from Nicaragua and the two wrappers are Ecuadorian Connecticut and Nicaraguan Corojo. The result of this blend is a medium-bodied masterpiece suitable for cigar freaks of all calibers.

The box is plain and simple and the cigars wear no bands. Each stick is lovingly constructed and rolled with precision, the final result being a seamless barber pole cigar with an unfinished foot. The draw is highly productive, offering plentiful opportunity to take in all the wonderful flavor and aroma produced by this exciting blend. Immediately upon lighting, a quick burst of cedar and white pepper start things off. Soon, notes of bread and cereal oddly form the core of the flavor profile, surrounded by earthy aroma and crisp raw tobacco flavor, likely coming from the Connecticut side of the wrapper. The puffs are creamy and smooth, and the finish is short and clean. Persian Queen ends up residing as a true medium-bodied cigar. At 6” x 60, the Gryphon is made for lovers of fat sticks, and offers a long, mellow smoking experience.

Tasty, enjoyable, versatile, and suitable for all audiences, Persian Queen is a cigar for everyone. The price to quality ratio is amazing, especially for a limited production stick. Its flavor profile is simple, yet interesting, and its medium body pairs well with white wine, light beers, or any decent whiskey. If you tried the Persian King back in the day, or simply are a fan of George Rico’s other projects such as La Conquista or Gran Habano Vintage 2002, you should give Persian Queen a try. We live in a time when prices are going up on everything, including cigars. How refreshing it is to know that there are cigars like Persian Queen Gryphon out there that combine quality and value and can be enjoyed by just about anyone! Long live the queen!
