Luminosa Gigante LE 2018 is a limited edition cigar from the well-known boutique powerhouse Crowned Heads, made in collaboration with the one and only Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. Produced in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Alianza, Luminosa is a bit different than the majority of cigars bearing the Crowned Heads trademark, as it resides on the milder side of the spectrum. That was the idea, in fact, according to Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber. They wanted something more approachable and versatile, rather than the more robust cigars the brand has come to be known for. As the filler and binder recipe is undisclosed, all we really know is that Luminosa wears a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper leaf. What we can tell you is that Luminosa is quite the cigar for any connoisseur seeking something light, pleasant, and highly-refined that won’t break the bank.
Golden brown in color and somewhat rustic in overall appearance, Luminosa is finished with an interesting orange band featuring what appears to be native artwork in the background. As with any other Crowned Heads cigar, Luminosa is beautifully constructed and offers an easy draw with boatloads of smoke. Opening with a slight burst of pepper, the profile quickly settles down into the lighter side of medium-bodied, where it remains for the duration of the smoking experience. Notes of grains, tobacco leaf, and cream are apparent, along with sweet cedar and cayenne on the finish. A light citrus note seems to linger in the background, further adding character to the blend.
