Kristoff Maduro Lancero Cigars
Known mostly for their spicy and full-bodied smokes, Kristoff Maduro is a wonderful variation. Made in the Dominican Republic with a wonderful blend of well-aged Dominican and Nicaraguan long-filler and a Dominican Binder, the key to this cigar's flavor is a super dark and oily Brazilian maduro wrapper. With the same tight pigtail on the cap and unfinished foot found on many other Kristoff cigars, the Maduro has the same construction and flavor that fans of the brand have come to expect. Despite the rich maduro wrapper, this stick is just a hair above a medium body.
As with all Kristoff cigars, the Maduro has a very understated band, but due to the dark nature of the wrapper, this one does not blend in. Pre-light inspection revealed a flawless wrapper that appeared almost seamless. A densely packed cigar, there was a sweet almost chocolaty aroma before lit. After the first few draws, which were effortless, this sweet flavor continued and mixed with a slightly bitter espresso note. From foot to nub, this smoked easily and straight with the same flavor profile carried right through to the end.
Kristoff Maduro is a wonderful change of pace from the other cigars of this brand. The sweetness is a wonderful addition and never off-putting. The chocolate and coffee notes paired with a nice after dinner drink such as a Sambuca. For other cigars in this profile we would suggest the CAO La Traviata Maduro.
