An extension of their ever-popular Special Series, this cigar contains the same astounding filler blend of Dominican longleaf comprised of smooth burning Olor Seco and two types of robust, spicy Ligero tobaccos: Piloto and a double-dose of San Vicente. The Special’s sweet Dominican Piloto Seco binder also makes a return, but what the fine folks at Davidoff have brought to the table for the Colorado Claro is a dazzling sun-grown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper of impeccable quality.
If you’re going to change what is already a top-tier smoke for many an enthusiast, the reason must either be as an improvement or an entirely new experience. Since there is little fault to be found in the original Special Series, the ruddy and sleek sun-grown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper on the Davidoff Colorado Claro Special R needs to live up to the latter. And does it ever. Genuinely medium-full in body, this 4 7/8” X 50 Robusto is nonetheless able to maintain a balance and charisma difficult to find in lesser stogies. Expect each puff to be loaded with some combination of dry cedar, sweet tobacco, salt, loamy earth, bright citrus, black pepper, cocoa, and graham cracker.
