The three men in question would spend the next few years tweaking and experimenting, aging and testing, until finally what is today known as Mil Dias was ready to go. Made in Nicaragua at Tabacalera Pichardo, this blend features a 3-country filler blend consisting of leaves from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Peru. The binder is Nicaraguan, and the wrapper is a golden brown Habano leaf grown in the lush volcanic soil of Ecuador. The finished product would end up taking the cigar community by storm, first blowing up on social media and then gathering a pair of solid 91 ratings by Cigar Aficionado. Mil Dias has since become somewhat of a sensation among fans of boutique cigars.
Gorgeous wooden chests seat the precision rolled vitolas, each wearing a simple white band bearing the Mil Dias logo. The draw is productive and the burn is sharp, offering billowing clouds of silky smoke first greeting the palate with smooth woody flavors. Pepper is next up, combining delightfully with the creamy body of the rich, earthy smoke. The sweet tobacco flavors of the unique filler blend form the backbone of the profile, while notes of toast, black pepper, and floral nuances are detectable throughout. There is a final dose of cedar on the finish, wrapping up the delicious creamy flavor journey and rounding things out nicely. After all is said and done, this stick finishes as a medium-full-bodied cigar. At 5 3/8” x 52, the Edmundo size is the closest thing to a traditional robusto offered by the brand.
While inexperienced smokers may not be the intended audience for this cigar, it certainly makes for a great stepping stone between mild and full-bodied smokes.
