Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG) Illusion Cigars | Selected by Cigar Aficionado 2023 #15 Cigar of the Year – Rated 94
Since its debut in 1999, the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG) has stood as one of the finest examples of modern, full-bodied Dominican cigars. Crafted by Carlos Fuente Jr. of Tabacalera Fuente, the blend showcases 4- to 5-year-aged Dominican tobaccos beneath an exquisite Ecuadorian Sun-Grown wrapper grown exclusively for Ashton by the Oliva family. This careful aging and expert construction have earned the VSG consistent acclaim, including a 94 rating and recognition as the #15 Cigar of the Year in 2023 by Cigar Aficionado.
The Ashton VSG Illusion (6 1/2" x 44, corona) offers an elegant, elongated format that intensifies the cigar’s complexity. Its firm, oily wrapper carries aromas of fresh-cut grass and smoky wood before lighting. Once lit, the draw reveals layers of cocoa, leather, and black cherry with a natural syrupy sweetness. Midway, notes of oak and creamy vanilla emerge as the profile deepens into full-bodied richness. The finale heightens the experience with exotic spices, making every puff engaging until the very end.
Refined yet powerful, the Ashton VSG Illusion is perfect for smokers who appreciate a nuanced evolution in flavor. Best enjoyed slowly with a glass of tawny port or after a hearty meal, this cigar delivers a smoking journey worthy of its Top 25 acclaim.
