Viva La Vida Gran Toro Cigars
Following the sale of their New York retail locations in 2015, Cigar Inn founders Gus and Billy Fakih launched Artesano Del Tobacco to bring their own vision of premium cigars to market. To turn that ambition into reality, they collaborated with master blender AJ Fernandez, who manufactures the lineup at his state-of-the-art Tabacalera AJ Fernandez factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Viva La Vida Gran Toro is an authentic Nicaraguan puro, blended using aged tobaccos harvested entirely from the Fernandez family estates. Constructed with a dark Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro 2000 wrapper, a Corojo '99 binder, and a filler recipe composed of Criollo '98, this blend showcases the richness and depth of Nicaraguan soil. The partnership has proven to be a resounding success, with the overall line garnering significant industry praise, including a 94 rating and #16 Top 25 ranking for its sister vitola, the Jester, in 2020.
Visually, the dark Habano Oscuro wrapper leaf displays an oily sheen with a fine, toothy texture across its rustic exterior. Each stick is adorned with a distinctive band featuring stylized jester artwork that creates a bold, contemporary aesthetic. Upon lighting, the 6” x 60 Gran Toro format draws smoothly, producing thick volumes of blue smoke due to its substantial ring gauge. The profile opens with an assertive burst of white pepper and sharp Nicaraguan spice, before transitioning into a complex full-bodied core of oak, cinnamon, leather, and rich earth. A subtle note of floral sweetness registers on the retrohale, offering balance to a long, satisfying finish.
Engineered specifically for seasoned palates, the Viva La Vida Gran Toro delivers a direct yet multi-layered smoking profile rooted in classic Nicaraguan strength. Its pronounced spice and deep wood notes make it an exceptional pairing for bourbon, single malt scotch, or full-bodied craft beer, especially when enjoyed after a heavy meal. Positioned alongside other notable AJ Fernandez creations like Enclave and Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua, this 6x60 vitola provides a cool-burning, flavor-dense expression of fine estate-grown tobacco.
