These 5 1/2” x 50 seconds cigars have the same Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend, the same Nicaraguan binders, and the same 12-year-old Honduran Broadleaf wrappers as the ones in the fancy box, but thanks to a blemish here and there or an extra vein here and there, they didn’t quite make the cut to be sold as firsts. The taste, however, is the same Rocky Patel Vintage flavor that we’ve all come to know and love.
Even though a stick may be off-color or splotchy in appearance every now and then, the awesome Rocky Patel construction keeps its presence, even with the seconds. An easy draw provides thick blue smoke and the creamy coffee, cedar and cocoa flavor profile synonymous with the Vintage ’90 hits the palate hard. Sweetness, spicy wood, and nutty undertones are just a few of the complex notes one can expect with this particular blend.
Okay, so they don’t come in a wood box and they don’t have elegant maroon bands. So what? These tasty treats are every bit as good as their retail counterparts, only at a fraction of the price (making them better than the fancy ones by the standards of most). They pair great with any type of whiskey or dark rum and are comparable to both the Rocky Patel Vintage ’92 and Rocky Patel Sun Grown.
