At first glance, it might seem unusual to highlight the Plasencia name on the gold-embossed black band of the Alma Fuerte Generacion V. After all, most of the world’s celebrated cigars don’t display their makers so prominently. But consider this: the Plasencia family is not only the largest tobacco grower globally, they also produce finished cigars for dozens of other brands at their Segovia Cigar Factory. With that kind of experience, it takes a truly exceptional cigar to merit the Plasencia name—enter the Generacion V, a 7” x 58 salomon Nicaraguan Puro that earned #9 Cigar of the Year in 2017 with a 93 rating from Cigar Aficionado.
The moment you inspect this masterpiece, it’s clear why. Each Generacion V is crafted with meticulous attention: the triple cap is flawlessly finished, the oily, dark Nicaraguan wrapper boasts a gentle tooth, and the barrel appears almost poured rather than rolled. A pre-light draw hints at minerals and mint from the four-region filler blend. Upon lighting, rich, creamy milk chocolate greets the palate, followed by bold black coffee, roasted hazelnuts, cedar, and subtle cherry stem notes. The final inches reveal layers of molasses, salted peanut, malt, and a touch of licorice, making the finish as complex as it is memorable.
Medium to full-bodied, the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Generacion V is a cigar designed for special occasions, yet it’s backed by the Plasencia family’s generations of expertise. For other high-quality experiences with that signature Plasencia touch, consider sticks like Rocky Patel The Edge, Nat Sherman Timeless, Casa Magna Oscuro, or Alec Bradley Black Market Esteli. With five generations in tobacco cultivation and cigar crafting, the Plasencias continue to set the bar for excellence.
