2 x Macanudo Inspirado Black Robusto (4 7/8” x 48, ●●●●● Full). Containing an expertly balanced mix of Esteli-grown Nicaraguan long-leaf tobaccos plus an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, it is the special Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, grown using an innovative process that allows it to ripen on the stalk, that really makes this cigar a new benchmark for the iconic company. Expect notes of sweet wood, leather, white pepper, and black licorice, with blasts of espresso and cocoa on them throughout the experience.
2 x Macanudo Inspirado Green Toro (6” x 50, ●●●○○ Medium). Slammed full of carefully aged Dominican longleaf filler beneath an exotic Indonesian binder and shimmering, near-perfect Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper. A pre-light test reveals a toasty, nutty aroma wafting to the nose while the smooth draw delivers the promise of cocoa and cream. Leading off with a solid run of espresso, soft pretzel, and oak, you’ll also witness a nice raw sugarcane sweetness sliding into the aftertaste. On deck for the middle third are roasted peanuts, brown butter, cinnamon, and dried fruit. Expect a home run in the final innings as chocolate malt, salted caramel, earth, and bright citrus clinch the pennant.
2 x Macanudo Inspirado Orange Toro (5 3/4” x 52, ●●●●○ Medium-Full). Handmade in Honduras, Macanudo Inspirado Orange cigars are rolled using a robust filler blend of Honduran, Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos and a Honduran binder. The wrapper is a deep brown Olancho San Agustin leaf from Honduras, a rare but extremely flavorful type of tobacco. Earthy, crisp, and complex, Inspirado Orange begins with grassy notes and a strong tobacco presence, but soon transitions into a vast array of spicy and sweet flavors. A tangy citrus note hangs in the background and a peppery cherry flavor rolls off the nose on the finish.
2 x Macanudo Inspirado Red Toro (6” x 50, ●●●●● Full). Inspirado Red uses a blend of aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos beneath a golden-brown Ecuador Habano wrapper—a recipe which is simple at first glance but has been expertly blended and tweaked to provide a satisfying full-bodied smoking experience with impeccable balance and emphasis on rich, complex flavor. Offering a solid draw and a substantial amount of thick, white smoke, this cigar opens with a burst of pepper and cedar. This intense opening subsides into a rich, spicy flavor bouquet of black cherry, leather, cinnamon, and cocoa. A bold finish and touch of cayenne on the retrohale further rounds things out, making for one heck of a wild ride. Though full-bodied and quite eventful, Inspirado Red most definitely boasts amazing balance and smoothness throughout.
2 x Macanudo Inspirado White Toro (6 1/2” x 50, ●●○○○ Mild-Medium). With four-year-aged Nicaraguan and Mexican filler, an Indonesian binder, and an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper rested for half a dozen years, even grizzled old-timers will find much to enjoy here. Alive with luscious taste from the start, each slow-burning cigar will progress from creamy cedar to sharp white pepper and on into the depths of rich dark cocoa and nutmeg all while remaining cool on the lips and easy on the belly.
