1 x Don Pepin Garcia Vegas Cubanas Generosos (6” x 50 ●●●○○ Medium, 93-Rated). This cigar contains all Nicaraguan tobacco—filler, binder, and wrapper. The wrapper leaf is a premium aged Corojo Rosado leaf grown on Don Pepin's own farm. A smooth draw, a sharp burn line, and billowing clouds of silky, thick smoke are constant with every stick. The cigar starts off with a signature Pepin pepper storm, though this one is a bit tamer than most other cigars bearing the My Father name. Quickly, an earthy, woody profile is established, speckled along the way with simple hints of cedar, brown sugar, and coffee. The body is creamy and easy-going, and the finish is crisp and clean.
1 x Flor De Las Antillas Maduro Toro (6” x 50 ●●●●○ Medium-Full). This flavorful cigar is made with an Ecuadorian-grown Habano Sun Grown Oscuro wrapper, savory and robust Nicaraguan fillers and binders, sourced from three of the Garcia family’s best farms. Crisp yet robust from the moment it is lit, the smoke pours from the cigar lush with spice, oak, dark berries, cocoa, and salt. Further expansion of flavor will seem impossible until later appearances of black coffee, leather, citrus, and red licorice fill the mouth and the nose with wave after creamy wave of delight.
1 x My Father Toro (6” x 50 ●●●●○ Medium-Full, 94-Rated). Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2009 #3 Cigar Of The Year. Using Nicaraguan binder and filler grown by the Garcias themselves and a stunning chocolate brown Ecuadorian wrapper grown by the masters at Oliva, My Father is the perfect tribute to any occasion. Deep spice and slightly sweet toffee flavor engulf your pallet with every puff. This cigar is incredibly smooth right down to the nub.
1 x My Father El Centurion H-2K-CT Toro (6” x 50 ●●●●○ Medium-Full, 93-Rated). The box-pressed version was selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2016 #16 Cigar Of The Year. A hearty Nicaraguan mix of Criollo and Corojo rumored to be Pepin’s personal blend, and the H-2K-CT wrapper (meaning the Habano 2000 wrapper grown in the Connecticut River Valley). After the expected Pepin-esque blast of black pepper, the wrapper provides a honeyed citrus peel and cedar overcoat to the sultry filler tobaccos full of dark cocoa, vanilla cream, roasted almonds, and cherry stem. Evolving as it slowly burns to include espresso, toffee, and nutmeg.
1 x La Duena Toro (6” x 50 ●●●●○ Medium-Full). A deep brown Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper encases the flavorful Nicaraguan filler, which has just enough of that same wrapper leaf blended in. The inclusion of the Connecticut broadleaf into the filler blend gives this cigar an exceptional cocoa hint to go along with the subtle spice. First light brings a blast of peppery smoke which may make you want to sit down, but further smoking tames this spice and brings out a sweetness found throughout this cigar. Two flavors that perfectly complement each other, coffee, and cocoa, are very present.
