My Father La Promesa Lancero Cigars
The My Father La Promesa Lancero is a cigar that carries deep personal significance for Don Pepin Garcia. Translating literally to “The Promise,” this line serves as a tribute to the vow he made to his family when he left Cuba: to prove himself and achieve greatness in the cigar industry. Decades later, with expansive farms in Nicaragua and acclaimed factories in both Nicaragua and Miami, it is clear that promise has been kept. This blend is meticulously crafted at the My Father factory and features a lush Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper that envelops a binder and filler composed of Nicaraguan tobacco grown on the family’s private estates.
Visually, the oily, reddish-hued wrapper appears nearly seamless, contrasting elegantly with the traditional My Father band and the distinctive green and blue secondary "La Promesa" label. The construction ensures an excellent draw, producing thick clouds of white smoke. The experience begins with the signature "Pepin Pepper" blast, a hallmark of the family's blending style. This initial spice soon transitions into a flavor profile of oak, leather, and bright citrus, with additional notes of cinnamon, cedar, and brown sugar on the finish. While it possesses enough kick to remain satisfying, it is notably more refined than some of the brand's heavier offerings, maintaining a medium-to-full strength throughout.
The My Father La Promesa Lancero has received high marks from industry experts, specifically earning a 92 rating from Cigar Aficionado for its balanced and complex character. This elegant 7 ½” x 38 vitola may be slender, but it offers a concentrated and intense flavor experience due to the higher ratio of wrapper leaf to filler. It pairs exceptionally well with bourbon, port wine, or dark ales, and stands alongside other masterpieces like La Opulencia and Flor De Las Antillas Maduro. By choosing La Promesa, you are experiencing the fulfillment of a lifelong pledge and the peak of contemporary cigar craftsmanship.
