My Father La Antiguedad Toro Gordo Pack of 5 Cigars | Selected by Cigar Aficionado as the 2019 #20 Cigar of the Year - Rated 92
When it comes to top quality and unbelievably great tasting cigars, Don Pepin Garcia is one of the first names people think of and the new La Antiguedad Toro Gordo continues his streak of fantastic smokes. When the Flor De Las Antillas was named the best cigar of 2012 it is hard to believe that something may come out to top it, but we would be very surprised if the new My Father La Antiguedad doesn't get extremely high accolades on the 2014 list. Made in the famous My Father factory in Nicaragua, La Antiguedad has the finest of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan filler tobaccos which are aged for a minimum of three and a half years. Double bound in both Nicaraguan criollo and corojo leaf, La Antiguedad is finished with a gorgeous Habano Ecuador Rosado Oscuro wrapper.
With a name which roughly translates to “The Antiquity”, the band echoes this feeling of nostalgia. A gorgeous old style cigar band scene is framed in gold accent which stand out strikingly against the dark rosado wrapper. Rigidly square-pressed, the construction on La Antiguedad Toro Gordo is the perfection you would expect from Garcia. The 6” x 60 vitola, with barely a vein to be found and a look that is virtually seamless, this smoke burns as perfectly as any we have lit in a long time. The initial taste of cinnamon of spice hit you at first but after the first few puffs this milds into an astounding medium-to-full bodied cigar with tons of flavor dancing across your palate.
My Father La Antiguedad Toro Gordo is another hit for Pepin and all in his amazing Nicaraguan factory. A great medium-to-full cigar which will not knock you down with spice but will make your mind dance trying to nail down all the flavors entering your mouth. This is a perfect mid-afternoon cigar and went perfectly with a pick-me-up espresso to help finish off the day. If you like these we would also highly recommend the Flor de las Antillas as well.
