A Short, Powerful Habano

Halloween is my 2nd favorite time of year (don’t hate me — you know I am a secret Christmas lover). The air smells like pumpkin spice, fake cobwebs, and faint regret. So, naturally, I decided to pair the season’s eerie charm with a cigar that’s just as bold and mischievous as the holiday itself: the Nub Habano 464T Torpedo.

First Impressions: Wrapper, Aroma & Construction

Now, if you’ve never smoked a Nub before, imagine a cigar that decided to skip leg day — short, squat, and unapologetically round. The 464T looks less like a cigar and more like a cigar that’s been cursed by a witch to be 4 inches tall forever. You half expect it to hop off the table and start talking funny to you. But don’t let its size fool you. This little guy has the confidence and punch to knock you off your feet. Right off the bat, the Habano wrapper is stunning — oily, smooth, and the color of toasted bread left a minute too long in the oven. Can you tell I’m hungry? I gave it a sniff (as one does when alone and pretending to be sophisticated) and got notes of cedar, leather, and something that made me think of a bonfire and roasting s’mores.

Flavor Profile: Pepper, Chocolate, Spice & Creamy Notes

The first half of my smoke is full-bodied, peppery, and a little sweet — the Nub Habano wastes no time creeping into your taste buds. There’s that signature Nicaraguan spice that makes you cough just enough to feel alive again. Okay, I may have coughed a lot. Beneath the spice are flavors of nuts, coffee, and dark chocolate — like Halloween candy for adults who would rather just drink the party favors.

Burn & Smoke Output

As it burns — surprisingly slow for a cigar that looks like it should last about as long as a trick-or-treat run — it develops this creamy smoothness that’s downright enchanting. It’s like the cigar took off its vampire fangs and decided to show you its softer side. The smoke output is massive. I looked like I was trying to summon ghosts in my backyard. Luckily, I’m at my in-laws’ house in the middle of nowhere, or else my neighbors would be calling the fire department.

Fun Finish

During the final half, the strength ramps up — full-bodied, rich, and just this side of spooky. Notes of coffee increase, the pepper mellows out, and it all ends with a satisfyingly toasty finish. I sat there, puffing away, jack-o’-lanterns glowing, and thought: this is what adult Halloween feels like — no candy hangovers, just great smoke and existential peace. The Nub Habano 464T Torpedo may look like a novelty, but it delivers a seriously good experience. It’s bold, balanced, and festive in its own fiery way — like the perfect Halloween costume that still manages to scare small children and make you laugh at the same time. I can see it pairing perfectly with hot apple cider, listening to Monster Mash on repeat, and the comforting thought that at least your cigar won’t ghost you.
