Introduction

The E.P. Carrillo Encore Majestic was the 2018 Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year. The Perez-Carrillo name has been a mainstay within the industry for years, and the Family Series of Cigars showcases the love of family history that they proudly represent. This cigar has unique flavors, with the wrapper containing tobaccos from Condega, Jalapa, and Nicaragua, all coming from Nicaraguan leaf.

The rain has returned, as well as some cooler weather here in Pennsylvania. I was getting slightly wet smoking on my patio and had to retreat to the dryness of my garage. I have paired my smoke with a Diet Coke, which is pretty much what I drink on a regular basis.

First Half of the Cigar

The first half of my smoke is filled with both earth, pepper, and sweet notes. I was surprised by how rich it was. The flavors change slightly with some added nuttiness to the pepper. I am not usually a fan of a lot of pepper flavors, but I really am enjoying this so far. I had to take a slight pause during my smoke as my work phone was going off incessantly.

Second Half

During the second half, the Earth notes disappeared, and there was definitely more sweetness, floral-like, I'd say. There is such a great balance between flavors that you can honestly tell this smoke was blended perfectly. The pepper isn't overwhelming, but it was just enough to give the cigar a good "kick."

Burn/Draw

The draw was slightly tight, but I didn't mind it at all. I had some waves in the burn, but it corrected itself right away.
