Montecristo Volume II: The Rendezvous Toro opens yet another chapter in the ongoing cigar story written piece by piece by the Grupo de Maestros and the fine folks at Altadis USA. The second installment in an exclusive series of blends drawing inspiration from the unforgettable Count of Monte Cristo novel by Alexandre Dumas, Volume II: The Rendezvous hails from Honduras, constructed at the world-famous Flor de Copan factory by some of the most skilled rollers in the world. The recipe for this project includes filler tobacco from Honduras, a broadleaf binder, and a deep golden brown Habano 2000 wrapper leaf from Ecuador. A reference to the chapter in Volume II of the novel where the Count of Monte Cristo is introduced to the luxury of Parisian society, this cigar seems to be aptly named and intended to be enjoyed as the luxurious gem it truly is.

Packaged in 10 count boxes resembling leather-bound hardcover books with gleaming silver and black bands covering nearly the entirety of each vitola, Montecristo Volume II: The Rendezvous certainly boasts some beautiful attire. The beauty doesn’t stop there, however, as each cigar is constructed to the highest standards, displaying a near seamless roll that leads to a productive draw on each and every puff. A spicy introduction soon turns into a solid base of earthy raw tobacco spiked with notes of chocolate and cinnamon. White pepper remains throughout the smoke, but just enough to add some appreciated depth to the mix. The finish is clean and rich, with a slight hint of floral sweetness through the nose. Medium-bodied and delicately balanced, this blend is nothing short of a sheer delight. The classic 6” x 50 Toro size is hugely popular and offers a long, relaxing smoking experience.

Produced for the pickiest of cigar snobs, this blend is in no way intended for a less-than-mature audience. A seasoned palate is a must when it comes to truly appreciating all the complex flavor and rich nuances this stick has to offer. Medium-bodied and heavy on flavor, it pairs beautifully with red wine, bourbon, or single malt scotch. If you enjoyed Montecristo Volume I: 100 Days, this blend should no doubt be next on your to-do list. It also compares to similar medium-bodied Montecristo releases such as Montecristo White or Montecristo Platinum, so fans of such beloved blends will likely enjoy this one as well. This masterpiece is red-hot and hard to find, so don’t hesitate to turn the page and experience the next part of the ongoing story with Montecristo Volume II: The Rendezvous Toro today!
