Plenty of new, trendy cigar lines have come out bearing the Montecristo logo in recent years, and Montecristo Volume 1: 100 Days Toro is among the newer releases from Altadis USA. Named after a chapter in the Count of Monte Cristo which tells of events that occurred 100 days after Napoleon Bonaparte’s escape from the Isle of Elba, this special edition takes the “100 days” theme even further, as the cigars are aged in aromatic cedar bins for 100 days after rolling. The blend was put together by Altadis USA’s Grupo de Maestros and is produced in Honduras at the Flor de Copan factory. The recipe includes Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, a Nicaraguan binder, and a golden Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf.

The vitolas are luxuriously dressed in silver and black bands covering nearly the entire body. The packaging is both clever and unique, as the 10-count boxes are made to resemble the famous Count of Montecristo novel by Alexandre Dumas. The construction of this cigar leaves little to be desired, as each vitola offers a streamlined and satisfying smoking experience. The thick white smoke first greets the palate with a massive burst of cedar, soon joined by Nicaraguan pepper and hints of cayenne and cocoa. There is a sweet floral finish through the nose, completing the simple, yet poetically constructed flavor profile. Montecristo Volume 1: 100 Days finishes as a medium-bodied cigar with impeccable balance and immense flavor. The Toro size is 6” x 52, offering a lengthy, mellow smoking experience.

While this medium-bodied cigar may be suitable for all audiences, it is really aimed at cigar enthusiasts with more developed palates. As is the case with most Montecristo sticks, this blend makes for a great celebration cigar, or simply something to puff on when enjoying the company of good friends. It pairs well with bourbon, scotch, or white wine and is similar in stature to such other Montecristo masterpieces as Montecristo Platinum and Montecristo White. Over the years, countless memorable cigars have worn the Montecristo logo. Montecristo Volume 1: 100 Days Toro continues the trend, and no doubt tells a story with each and every puff.
