Montecristo Espada Oscuro Quillon Cigars
The Montecristo Espada Oscuro Quillon represents a significant evolution in modern Nicaraguan blending, taking one of the most iconic names in tobacco into richer, bolder territory. Handcrafted at Plasencia Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua, this release is the result of a landmark partnership between Altadis USA’s Grupo de Maestros and the Plasencia family. Designed as a 100% Nicaraguan puro, every component of the blend originates from prime Nicaraguan soil. The standout feature is its proprietary wrapper leaf: a dark, heavily fermented Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper selected from vintage reserves in the Plasencia family’s private library. Bound and filled with aged Nicaraguan tobaccos, this medium-to-full-bodied recipe offers exceptional depth and complexity. Cigar Aficionado has given the Montecristo Espada Oscuro multiple 90+ ratings, reaching as high as a 93 rating.
Presented in elegant black dress boxes, each massive 7" x 56 Double Churchill is adorned with ornate black-and-gold double bands featuring the historic Montecristo fleur-de-lis. The physical construction is exemplary, boasting a clean roll and a productive draw that generates abundant smoke volume. Upon lighting, the palate is greeted with opening notes of aged oak and toasted nuts, which quickly give way to secondary layers of black pepper, baked bread, and warm spice. Accents of subtle citrus and dark cocoa linger in the background, anchored by an underlying earthy core. The finish is remarkably long, creamy, and clean, balancing the dark wrapper's natural sweetness. The imposing Quillon vitola ensures a long, cool smoke that gives every flavor layer ample room to develop.
This blend is tailored for experienced smokers who seek full flavor profiles without harshness. Resting on the heavier side of medium-full, its commanding presence and complex strength make it a natural pairing for small-batch bourbon, single malt scotch, or a pour of tawny port. If you enjoyed the original Montecristo Espada or lean toward rich Nicaraguan puros like the Plasencia Alma Fuerte, the Espada Oscuro Quillon is a must-have addition to your humidor. Translated from Spanish as "sword," the Espada Oscuro Quillon stays on the cutting edge of ultra-premium cigar craftsmanship.
