Matilde Renacer Toro Bravo Cigars
When Jose Seijas announced his retirement from Altadis in 2012, the cigar world hoped that wouldn't be the last of him. The master, who has over 60 years in the cigar industry, did some work with La Flor Dominicana's Litto Gomez the following year, but the Matilde Renacer Toro Bravo is his first full release. An amazing cigar made in the Tabacalera Matilde factory in the Dominican Republic, this stick is a great cigar to celebrate the Seijas's return. Made of aged Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler, a Dominican binder, and a smooth Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, the Matilde Renacer is a fantastic medium bodied cigar. This was named the 19th best cigar of 2014 by Cigar Aficionado magazine.
The brown and gold embellished band has a beautifully artistic representation of the letter S on it. The light brown wrapper gives off pre-lit notes of sweetness and an almost butterscotch aroma, but what comes in the first third is a little bit of a shock. Pepper and earthiness come through at first but never overpower, and are an extremely pleasant surprise. That pepper subsides slightly and plays off the natural tobacco sweetness perfectly throughout the entire cigar.
Matilde Renacer Toro Bravo is a great cigar to celebrate the return of a master to his craft. jose Siejas has been making amazing cigars for more than half a century and this is no different. The body and flavor of this cigar matches perfectly with a great dark coffee or espresso in the midafternoon as you are winding down your day. We would also recommend another Romeo y Julieta 1875 or Montecristo Classic as cigars that Seijas has worked on in the past.
