Liga Undercrown Shade cigars will seem like a vast departure from what fans of Drew Estate are used to from the company, but after the first few puffs, all doubts will be put at ease. Usually known for it’s hearty dark Maduro wrappers on the Liga Privada No. 9 and regular Undercrown line, or the medium brown Stalk Cut Liga Privada T52 wrapper, Undercrown Shade is an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapped beauty. The Dominican Criollo 98, and Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo filler tobaccos and Sumatran binder round out the blend on this cigar, and give it a wonderful medium bodied taste.

While not as robust as a lot of the other blends that come out of Drew Estate’s La Gran Fabrica factory in Nicaragua, Liga Undercrown Shade is by far not the mild cigar most people associate with a Connecticut wrapper. Complexity is king in this stick and that comes through before you even light up. The cold draw will greet your taste buds with notes of creamy vanilla and rich earth. As you get into this smoke, the sweet vanilla and a creaminess will take over your palate with a hint of pepper in the background that plays off everything else perfectly. The final third introduces a cinnamon like spice which pushes all the other flavors back slightly and begins to take hold.

If you dismissed Liga Undercrown Shade as yet another mild Connecticut wrapped cigar, you are missing out on an incredibly complex, medium-bodied, tasty cigar.
