The Liga Privada Undercrown Coronet stands as one of the most popular cigars to emerge from the legendary Drew Estate factory. Following the footsteps of the world-renowned Liga Privada No. 9 and T52, Undercrown belongs to the same prestigious family. Jonathan Drew recalls that in early 2009, factory rollers were asked to smoke fewer Liga Privada cigars to preserve export stock. Rather than complain, they crafted their own signature blend, using rare tobaccos from T52 and No. 9, but from different primings and vintages.
The Coronet combines a premium blend of Nicaraguan Cuban-seed and Brazilian Mata Fina filler tobaccos, a T52 Connecticut River Valley Habano binder, and a rare San Andrés Maduro wrapper, Otapan Negro Ultimo Corte (“Last Cut Black Otapan”). Originally a “throw-around” favorite among factory rollers, it quickly became a masterpiece, earning a spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25.
Measuring 4” x 32, the Coronet is a pequeno-sized cigarillo designed for 20–30 minute smoking sessions. Firmly packed and expertly rolled, it burns slowly with a consistent draw, releasing long, silky ribbons of translucent blue smoke. Its flavor begins with earthy tobacco and evolves into creamy cocoa, roasted nuts, and sweet Nicaraguan spice. Medium-full-bodied, the Coronet mirrors the classic maduro profile with elevated refinement, finishing with a thick, sweet, lingering finish that highlights the luxurious wrapper.
Like all Drew Estate non-infused cigars, the Undercrown Coronet is designed for seasoned palates. It pairs beautifully with bourbon, scotch, or red wine and is comparable to Liga Privada No. 9 and Liga Privada T52, both of which inspired its creation.
