The Liga Privada Undercrown Churchill is one of the most celebrated cigars to come from the acclaimed Drew Estate factory. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Liga Privada No. 9 and T52, Undercrown belongs to the same distinguished family of premium cigars. According to Jonathan Drew, its creation began in early 2009 when factory rollers were asked to smoke fewer Liga Privada cigars to preserve export inventory. Rather than complain, they crafted their own signature blend, using many of the rare tobaccos found in T52 and No. 9, but from different primings and vintages.
The Churchill features a luxurious combination of Nicaraguan Cuban-seed and Brazilian Mata Fina filler tobaccos, a T52 Connecticut River Valley Habano binder, and a rare San Andrés Maduro wrapper, Otapan Negro Ultimo Corte (“Last Cut Black Otapan”). Originally a casual favorite among factory rollers, it quickly rose to prominence, earning recognition on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of the Year in 2017, rated 91 points.
Firmly packed, masterfully rolled, and beautifully packaged, Undercrown truly shines in terms of appearance. However, that is only the beginning. The firm draw burns the cigar slowly, producing long, silky ribbons of translucent blue smoke that coats the palate like syrup.
