Larutan Irish Hops is not your typical maduro cigar. While a member of the Larutan lineup by Drew Estate down in Nicaragua, Irish Hops is technically a “limited edition” cigar, meaning it isn’t as easy to get your hands on as the other Larutan sticks. The recipe is just a tad bit different from its Larutan counterparts, using a hearty blend of filler tobaccos from Brazil and Nicaragua along with a Nicaraguan binder. The wrapper is a Mexican San Andres Negra Maduro leaf, which in and of itself adds an entirely new dimension to the flavor profile. Despite the fact that, like its Larutan counterparts, Irish Hops does not undergo the legendary Drew Estate infusion process, the depth and richness of the unique blend puts it in a category of its own.
Dark, toothy, and dripping with oils, Larutan Irish Hops sports the luxurious appearance San Andres-wrapped cigars are known for. As is the case with any premium stogie coming out of the Drew Estate factory, Irish Hops is expertly rolled under strict quality control guidelines, meaning a solid, productive draw can be expected every time. Immediately upon lighting, Irish Hops produces an abundant sweetness, along with a thick, creamy Irish cream note. Earthy and spicy throughout, the flavor profile evolves into a beautiful medley of coffee and white pepper. The finish is quite heavy, with an intense sweetness coating the palate and a bit of cinnamon through the nose. Medium-bodied and slow-burning, Larutan Irish Hops is a stout 6” x 52 toro.
The Larutan lineup from Drew Estate is known for being friendly towards fans of non-flavored cigars. This doesn’t necessarily mean the tobacco doesn’t contain some added flavor, but the experience is quite satisfying nonetheless, even for a cigar purist. As a solid medium-bodied cigar, Larutan Irish Hops is suitable for all audiences. It pairs extremely well with coffee, making it a great choice as a morning cigar to start the day. While Larutan Irish Hops is not technically in the same genre as Java by Rocky Patel or Jonathan Drew’s famed Isla Del Sol, fans of those sticks should most definitely give it a shot. Rich, creamy, and jam-packed with flavor, Larutan Irish Hops is a phenomenal choice for fans of flavored and traditional cigars alike.
