L’Atelier Lat 46 Selection Speciale is the latest cigar in the award-winning L’Atelier core series lineup. However, it is not technically part of the core series per se, but rather its own unique blend, the one thing setting it apart from the others being a more mature, higher-priming wrapper leaf. Made in Nicaragua at the world-famous My Father factory under the supervision of Don Pepin Garcia and company, Lat 46, like the rest of the L’Atelier cigars, is part of the Tatuaje brand and was introduced by brand owner “Tattoo” Pete Johnson.

The blend of Lat 46 is mostly the same as the other L’Atelier core cigars: Nicaraguan fillers, a Nicaraguan binder, and a golden brown Ecuadorian wrapper leaf. This rare, yet up-and-coming wrapper leaf is grown on the Oliva farms using hybrid seeds from the Garcias. In the case of Lat 46, this Ecuadorian wrapper, known as Sancti Spiritus, is harvested from a higher priming of the plant, yielding richer, fuller flavor and a stronger overall feel. At 5 5/8” x 46, this Corona Gorda is one heck of a firecracker, but it is a darned tasty one for sure.

Dark, golden brown and oily tobacco glistens under the simple, yet elegant band. With a Cuban-style pigtail cap and seamless construction, Lat 46 is as beautiful as it is delicious. A firm, yet very generous draw offers thick plumes of the heavy blue smoke so familiar with cigars from the My Father factory. The opening light-up is a trademark of sorts from the Garcia family as well, as the palate is greeted with a massive burst of spicy white pepper. In the case of Lat 46, this dosage of pepper remains throughout the smoke. Nutty, creamy flavors develop as the cigar progresses, along with a core of earthy tobacco goodness. A spicy finish and some hints of sweetness round out the profile, making this full-bodied treat a true classic of what the My Father factory has to offer.

Tatuaje, My Father, L’Atelier, you name it. If it is made with the names Don Pepin or Pete Johnson behind it, it is no beginner cigar. This particular stick should dwell in the humidors of only the most experienced connoisseurs, as not only will beginners fail to appreciate the complexity of the blend, but the strength will simply be too much. However, for the right aficionado, Lat 46 is nothing short of an absolute gem. It leaves nothing to be desired and will satisfy just about any experienced palate to the fullest. Lat 46 is a classic Nicaraguan bomb of a cigar and pairs nicely with scotch or bourbon, and is best enjoyed after a meal. Regarding stature and flavor profile, those wanting a similar experience to that of the Lat 46 should check out the original My Father line, as well as the original Tatuaje series. Lat 46 is no doubt destined to become something huge, just like anything else that comes through the doors of the My Father Factory. If you have a taste for the more elegant things in life, get your hands on a L’Atelier Lat 46 today.
