Kristoff Vengeance 660 Cigars
Lately, the trend of bringing back old cigar brands from the dead has been all the rage, and Kristoff Vengeance 660 is one particularly enticing example. When brand owner Glen Case began Exclusive Brands, which would eventually become Kristoff Cigars, Vengeance was one of the first blends to get the ball rolling. Later, that blend would be renamed GC Signature Series and still remains in the Kristoff portfolio. Fast forward about a decade, and we have the introduction of a "new" brand bearing the Kristoff name: Kristoff Vengeance. This stick is made at the Charles Fairmorn factory in the Dominican Republic and consists of an entirely new recipe. Differing from the GC Signature Series, today's Vengeance blend is made up of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, an Indonesian binder, and a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Vengeance is the first Kristoff cigar to feature a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, a decision that has indubitably proven to be a good one.
The packaging for Vengeance includes all the Kristoff signature touches one might expect, from the rugged gray box to the sinister black and silver bands. In Kristoff fashion, each vitola features a pigtail cap and rustic, yet beautiful construction. The dark, marbled wrapper looks imposing, yet upon first light it becomes clear that this concoction is made to be smooth and satisfying. The flavor profile starts off with a burst of classic maduro sweetness, followed by black pepper, coffee, and dark chocolate. A backbone of cedar and earth carries through to the end, and the finish is heavy and chocolaty. Medium-full-bodied and expertly balanced, this blend is made for the true connoisseur. This 6" x 60 size burns slowly and provides rich, mellow smoke for a long and relaxing experience.
Though not technically a beginner's cigar, Kristoff Vengeance is an excellent way to step into the realm of heavier, darker cigars and makes a great choice for a first maduro. Blends of this stature pair beautifully with coffee, making Vengeance a great way to start the day. However, dark beer and red wine pair well also, and as we all know, maduros are good any time of the day. If you have come to enjoy such maduro blends as CAO Maduro or Partagas Black Label, or maybe even have tried the classic GC Signature Series from Kristoff, this cigar should be right up your alley.
