Joya Silver Corona is the second of two special cigars released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Joya De Nicaragua. The first, Cinco Decadas, was an extremely limited release made in very small batches. This one, however, is here to stay, following Joya Red and Joya Black as a regular production cigar. Made in Nicaragua, Joya Silver is masterfully crafted and expertly blended using high end Nicaraguan filler tobacco grown exclusively on Joya De Nicaragua's own farms. A Mexican binder comes next, followed by a dark Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper leaf. Made for refined palates and already receiving much deserved attention, Joya Silver has racked up several 90+ ratings in Cigar Aficionado, including a pair of rock-solid 92s soon after its debut.
If a line within the brand could be awarded "best dressed," Joya Silver would most definitely take the cake. Dressy white boxes and elegant flashy bands accented with sparkly silver edges take the presentation to the next level. Those fresh bands look incredible against Joya Silver's reddish hued dark and velvety wrapper leaf, creating an opulent appearance that sets the proper mood for such a sophisticated smoke. A solid, yet free-flowing draw produces thick plumes of smoke and a crisp burn line. A burst of nutty flavor starts things off, along with a definitive presence of oak and white pepper. Dark chocolate and nutmeg float around in the background, as well as a soft bread note to tie it all together. The finish is smooth and thick, with a bit of sweetness and spice. Medium-full-bodied, Joya Silver is much tamer than some of the company's more popular offerings, yet it offers just enough to satisfy a very diverse audience. The 5 ¼" x 42 Corona may be petite, but it packs a serious punch. Be ready for intense flavor and a bit of added kick due to the smaller ring gauge.
For someone looking to go from medium-bodied cigars into something a bit more full, Joya Silver makes a terrific choice.
