On the surface, Numero Uno seems to be a simple blend, using Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos and an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper leaf. Packaged in beautiful blue and white boxes and wearing matching bands, Numero Uno’s packaging is almost as notable as the appearance of the vitolas themselves. Each stick is masterfully rolled, finished with a fantail cap and built with the utmost attention to every aspect of construction. An easy draw lends to copious amounts of thick white smoke which greets the palate upon first light with a medley of cream and nuts. Light white pepper holds a presence in the background, and the core holding everything together is rich raw tobacco flavor. Notes of bread, dark chocolate, and sweetness also join the mix, and the finish is heavy on the floral side. Overall, this blend falls dead center of the scale at medium-bodied. The long and fairly thin L’Ambassadeur is quite a luxurious size, coming in at 6 5/8” x 44 and offering a lengthy experience and a fuller take on the flavor profile.
