Joya De Nicaragua Dark Corojo Pesadilla Cigars
The Joya de Nicaragua Antaño Dark Corojo Pesadilla is the intensified successor to the legendary Antano 1970—a cigar once widely considered the strongest in the world. Released a full decade later to "kick things up a notch," the Dark Corojo takes the raw power of its predecessor and refines it into a sophisticated, aficionado-style experience. The Pesadilla is a formidable 4 3/4" x 60 Gordo that offers a massive ring gauge for those who want a long, cool-burning smoke with immense flavor. Draped in a near-black, 3-year-aged Nicaraguan Corojo Oscuro wrapper, this top-shelf masterpiece has solidified its reputation among critics, with the Dark Corojo line reaching distinguished ratings as high as 91 from Cigar Aficionado.
Visually, the Pesadilla is striking; its thick, oily wrapper glistening against luxurious black and gold bands. The construction is rugged yet seamless, producing a slow burn that delivers a heavy rush of cedar, earth, and spicy white pepper. Because of its generous 60-ring gauge, the smoke is voluminous, coating the palate with deep notes of dark chocolate, toffee, black cherry, and leather, finishing with a signature sweet-and-spicy character. While the flavor profile is remarkably broad, the strength is uncompromising—sitting at the absolute top of the fullness scale.
This is not a cigar for the uninitiated; Joya de Nicaragua specifically intended the Antaño Dark Corojo for the seasoned connoisseur and strongly recommends enjoying it on a full stomach. The Pesadilla’s "short and fat" format provides a cool, rich draw that lasts much longer than its length suggests. It serves as the ultimate finishing touch to a heavy steak dinner, pairing exquisitely with espresso, port wine, or a bold peated scotch.
