Isla Del Sol Maduro Breve is the dark-clad follow-up to Drew Estate’s original coffee infused cigar, Isla Del Sol. While you may not have heard much about Isla Del Sol, it is actually a fairly popular offering from Jonathan Drew and his Nicaraguan based giant of a company. Using their unique infusion process, the experts at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate flavor the outer leaves of Isla Del Sol cigars with rich coffee, and add a sweetened tip on top of that. The original blend used a Sumatra wrapper leaf, but this particular stick boasts a dark, rustic Nicaraguan maduro, along with both filler and binder from Nicaragua as well. You read that right—a Nicaraguan puro, infused with coffee and then sweetened. If that doesn’t sound absolutely delicious, we don’t know what does!

Isla Del Sol Maduro is rugged and unrefined in appearance. The dark, oily wrapper leaf is toothy and veiny, the heads are a bit uneven, and the bands appear to be something you’d come across in a Nicaraguan souvenir shop. This actually adds to the character of the cigar, giving them the appearance of Cuban cigars of old. As for construction and flavor, however, they are undeniably Drew Estate products. An easy draw offers up magnificent clouds of infused blue smoke. The sweetness from the tip pairs beautifully with the robust flavor of the Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, coating the palate with rich flavors of sugar and spice at the same time. The intense blast of coffee soon follows, becoming the dominant flavor of the blend. Hints of cinnamon and chocolate can be noted, and as the cigar smokes down earthy tobacco begins to show through. Medium-bodied, yet bursting with flavor, Isla Del Sol Maduro is a coffee lover’s dream come true. The Breve size is a 4” x 32 cigarillo, ideal for quick smoke breaks or those who are running short on time.

Numerous connoisseur-level cigars have come out of the Drew Estate factory over the years, but Isla Del Sol isn’t one of them. The target audience for this blend is a younger crowd, perhaps those just getting into cigars, or simply cigar freaks that just want something fun and different. In other words, Isla Del Sol Maduro, like its natural counterpart, is a cigar for everyone. It smokes easy, tastes great, smells awesome, and won’t make you dizzy. If we told you to pair Isla Del Sol Maduro with anything other than coffee, we would be doing you a huge disservice, as coffee is the ideal thing to enjoy with such an amazing coffee-infused cigar. Drew Estate has put out some very notable flavored cigars over the years, including Natural (also known as Larutan), and of course the original Isla Del Sol blend. We highly recommend both lines to anyone looking for an enjoyable flavored cigar experience without all the “weird” flavors included in some more extreme infused blends. Isla Del Sol Maduro is one of the more recent releases from Drew Estate, and is definitely doing very well. At this price point, you have nothing to lose in trying one. So, how does smoking a cup of coffee sound? Find out, with Drew Estate Isla Del Sol Maduro Breve!
