It's not often you come across a handmade cigar rolled in the US, but it's even more rare when one is as impressive as the Herrera Esteli Miami Toro Especial. As master blender for Drew Estate, Willy Herrera is personally responsible for many of the masterpieces coming from their Nicaraguan-based La Gran Fabrica, including the original Herrera Esteli. However, for this fine smoke Willy wanted to return to the place where he began his meteoric rise to the top of the cigar stratosphere, the diminutive El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami's Little Havana. There, some of the world's best torcedors use traditional methods to bunch the longleaf Dominican and Nicaraguan filler beneath two different types of Ecuadorian tobacco: a Sumatra binder, and a ruddy Habano Oscuro as the wrapper.
Those of you who pay little attention to the aroma of an unlit cigar should really take some quality time to get acquainted with the rich and spicy odors wafting from the flawless barrel of this 6” X 52 gem to gain some hints of what is to come. The leather, earth, toasted malt, cocoa, and cinnamon that form the base profile are all there just waiting to be unleashed as soon as the Herrera Esteli Miami Toro Especial is slowly smoldering. The fun doesn't stop while the strength gradually shifts from medium to just below full as your palate will delight to bursts of espresso, plenty of creamy goodness, hints of red pepper, and enough salted caramel to satiate even the sweetest tooth.
The worthy recipient of a shiny and new accolade being named as number 24 in the 2020 Cigar of the Year rankings, the Herrera Esteli Miami Toro Especial should be on every aficionado's short list of must-haves for 2020 and beyond.
