Herrera Esteli Brazilian Maduro Toro Especial Cigars
The Herrera Estelí Brazilian Maduro Toro Especial stands as a brilliant testament to blending ingenuity, adding a rich and distinctly dark chapter to Willy Herrera's highly acclaimed portfolio at Drew Estate. Released as a follow-up to the brand’s previous Top 25 masterpieces, this blend was intentionally engineered to push the boundaries of traditional maduro profiles. Handcrafted in Nicaragua at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, the blend utilizes a robust core of premium Nicaraguan and Dominican long-filler tobaccos and a sturdy Connecticut Broadleaf binder.
The crown jewel of this creation is its authentic, plantation-grown Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper. While this exceptional leaf is traditionally reserved for interior binders or fillers, master blender Willy Herrera purposefully brought the Mata Fina to the absolute forefront of the blend. This unorthodox approach proved to be a resounding success, earning the line a well-deserved 92 rating from Cigar Aficionado for its complex, beautifully balanced execution.
Dressed in sleek blue, white, and gold bands that combine classic Cuban style with modern simplicity, the 6" x 54 Toro Especial vitola is one of the most popular sizes in the entire lineup. The classic Toro proportions allow for a long, cool, and easy smoke that brings an abundance of flavor nuances to the surface. Upon lighting, the palate is greeted by an immediate wave of black pepper, which quickly transitions into deep, enveloping layers of rich cocoa, earth, and aged cedar.
As the cigar burns, subtle undertones of natural sweetness emerge to perfectly counter the persistent earthy spiciness, while a faint hint of roasted coffee lingers beautifully in the background. Maintaining a solid medium-to-full body from start to finish, this complex smoke is designed for experienced enthusiasts. It pairs magnificently alongside a pour of fine bourbon, a peaty scotch, or a dark stout.
