For years, mention of the Gurkha brand brought to mind lavish price tags and extravagant creations like the Black Dragon and His Majesty's Reserve rather than everyday affordability. When Kaizad Hansotia was first presented with the concept of a budget-conscious line from his team, he was admittedly skeptical. The resulting creation was the Gurkha Ninja, and its swift commercial success quickly won over critics and enthusiasts alike. Crafted in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera Las Lavas, the lineup features five core vitolas: Churchill (7 x 52), Knife (5 x 55), Perfecto No. 2 (6 x 60), Torpedo (6 x 52), and XO (6 x 60).
Unlike the original text's blend description, standard industry specifications for the Gurkha Ninja line highlight a dark Dominican Criollo '98 wrapper, a hearty Nicaraguan binder, and a balanced core of Dominican long-fillers. This tobacco composition delivers the classic characteristics expected from a dark, rich leaf, offering layered notes of sweetness, dark leather, rich earth, and roasted nuts balanced by a distinct pepper finish. Operating in a solid medium-full body and medium-full flavor profile, the Gurkha Ninja Knife sets itself apart from the rest of the portfolio by stripping away high markups and flashy packaging. Earning an impressive 91 rating from Cigar Aficionado, this 5 x 55 short gordo is packaged simply in boxes of 20, providing top-tier Dominican construction and reliable flavor without the high price tag.
