The Gran Habano Azteca Gran Robusto is a standout creation from the early 2010s Double Maduro surge and remains one of the most memorable entries from the era. Measuring 6" x 54, this dark, flavorful cigar followed the success of the Gran Habano #1, #3, and #5 blends. Guillermo and George Rico—representing four generations of tobacco heritage—set out to craft a future-facing Maduro by blending Nicaraguan, Habano, and Panamanian longleaf fillers and pairing them with a bold decision: using Mexican San Andrés Maduro for both the binder and wrapper. Their instinct proved prophetic, as San Andrés would soon become one of the most dominant leaves in modern Maduro cigars.
The oily, deep umber wrapper glistens under the light, watched over by Tonatiuh—the Sun God—on the gold-trimmed band. Before lighting, the cigar releases a rich, earthy aroma that hints at the flavor journey ahead. Once burning, it delivers dense plumes of smoke loaded with espresso, rye toast, and a developing vein of creamy caramel from the midpoint onward. Notes of oak, chocolate-covered almonds, and leather build toward a satisfying, full-flavored finish.
