Fratello Navetta Discovery is an ultra-premium cigar that pays tribute to NASA and celebrates the men and women of the space program as well as their many successes over the years. For those who don’t know, Fratello founder Omar de Frias worked for NASA for over 12 years, taking part in some 21 missions before setting foot in the cigar industry (which proved to be a giant leap for mankind). Fratello Navetta is made in Nicaragua at the famed Fabrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua S.A. and uses Nicaraguan fillers, a Dominican binder, and a gorgeous Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper leaf. As is the case with all Fratello cigars, Navetta has been a huge success, even earning a solid 90-rating in Cigar Aficionado.
The packaging for Navetta is ultra-modern, including white and silver bands and a shiny black box. Construction-wise, each cigar is a demonstration of the expert level of craftsmanship residing at the Joya de Nicaragua factory. A draw that just about anyone would consider to be ideal lends to thick clouds of dense smoke, at first greeting the palate with a spicy storm of white pepper. Soon, however, a sweet bouquet of bakers’ spices join the party, sprinkling the smoke with notes of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Black cherry and earthy raw tobacco linger in the background throughout the smoking experience, holing everything together. The finish is toasty and nutty, and the overall feel of this cigar puts it one notch below full-bodied.
