Florida Sun Grown Sixty Cigars
American tobacco has been hit or miss when it comes to finding a place in premium handmade cigars, but the Florida Sun Grown Sixty by Drew Estate shows there are still new horizons to explore. Using Corojo longleaf grown just outside of Orlando, Drew Estate’s master blender Willy Herrera culminated a multi-year journey of discovery and testing by finalizing a recipe sure to go down in history. To maximize the leaf’s particular characteristics, the luscious Florida Sun Grown tobacco has been blended with choice Nicaraguan filler before being paired with a Honduran Habano binder and a silky smooth Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper. The result is truly spectacular.
The aroma of an unlit Florida Sun Grown Sixty’s Maduro wrapper is floral and vegetal, like walking through a botanical garden but without the overwhelming infused reek of Drew Estate’s Acid cigars. Working a solid flame across the foot of the 6” x 60 ring gauge stogie while pulling steady puffs offers the lips a hint of pleasing sweetness, while the palate recognizes the flavors of black coffee, nutmeg, cocoa powder, and green pepper. Burning slowly, the cigar develops a bright white and solid ash to compliment the plentiful clouds of creamy smoke. Building to an easy medium-full by the halfway mark, where a touch of red pepper tempered by cream and citrus become evident, the smoker can look forward to an eventful finale all the way to the nub.
Whenever the lid of your humidor is opened and light spills across the blue-green and gold ‘FSG’ band gracing each beautiful Florida Sun Grown Sixty by Drew Estate cigar, and your eyes will light up, and you will be hard-pressed to pick up anything else. Delicious morning, noon, or night for all the right reasons, it is time to expand your geography and get a taste of the future. Who knows, your state or country might be next in the tobacco-growing revolution.
