The Eiroa family purchased Camacho Cigars in 1995, grew the company, and became known for their ultra-full-bodied cigars and unmatched quality. Coming up with the company, it can be said that Eiroa learned a thing or two about blending and producing premium cigars. In the early 2000s Camacho Cigars was sold to Davidoff and Christian Eiroa wasted no time introducing his own brand, CLE Cigars, the flagship cigar simply being called Eiroa. Eiroa The First 20 Years takes that flagship name to a whole new level, and is among his crowning achievements to date. This incredible puro hails from Honduras and boasts a robust blend of all-Honduran tobacco—wrapper, filler, and binder, grown in the beautiful Jamastran Valley. This tobacco is all but ordinary, however, as the stash used for these stogies is an heirloom crop that hasn’t been used in over 50 years. The end result can be thought of as a throwback to the premium Camachos of old, with a bit more refinement, but just as much raw strength as all true Camacho fans have come to know and love from their cigars. Apparently the folks at Cigar Aficionado love this particular blend, as it recently earned a solid 92 rating.
Dark and oily, road-mapped with veins, and sporting a very pronounced box press, Eiroa The First 20 Years wears a similar gold on red band to the original Eiroa line, along with an elegant tissue wrapper on the bottom half. Construction-wise, expect what has always been expected for a cigar rolled under Christian Eiroa’s supervision: an easy draw, crisp, sharp burn, and absolutely incredible consistency from cigar to cigar. Dense, thick plumes of silky white smoke pound the palate hard with earthy tobacco flavor and spicy white pepper. Definitive notes of cedar and nuts adorn the flavor profile, along with leathery nuances and hints of cayenne.
