E.P. Carrillo Inch Nicaragua No. 70 Pack of 5 Cigars
Ernesto Perez-Carrillo is best known for his industry-dominating Dominican cigars, but has in recent years started experimenting with Nicaraguan tobaccos, and with great success. One such successful achievement is Inch Nicaragua No. 70, the third regular production installment to the well-known, larger-than-life Inch series, following Inch Natural and Inch Maduro. For this blend, Carrillo decided to collaborate with one of the best-known names in all of Nicaraguan tobacco: The Plasencia Family. Made in the Plasencia factory in Nicaragua, also known as El Cathedral, Inch Nicaragua is a true Nicaraguan puro, meaning it is entirely made of Nicaraguan tobacco—wrapper, filler, and binder. The filler blend contains aged tobacco from Plasencia’s farms in Condega and Esteli, and the wrapper is a golden brown shade-grown leaf from Jalapa. The result is a spicy, well-rounded cigar set to satisfy the cravings of even the most enthusiastic fan of Nicaraguan cigars.
Such a bold cigar should include bold packaging, and this is certainly the case with Inch Nicaragua. The label is simple and loud, yet refined and premium in appearance, a great way to compliment the cigar beneath the band. Construction on each and every stout vitola is immaculate, lending to a soft, productive draw and a tight white ash. The flavor journey, like that of most Nicaraguan puros, starts off spicy and intense. This soon settles to an earthy, chocolaty array of flavor that holds everything together, speckled along the way with blasts of cedar and nuts. A creamy texture overtakes the blend about halfway through, and the finish is dry, clean, and peppery. For an all-Nicaraguan cigar, this blend certainly presents a very interesting and complex flavor profile. Inch Nicaragua finishes on the heavy side, just about a notch below full-bodied. The No. 70 is a monster, coming in at 7” x 70 and offering cool, rich smoke and a lengthy experience.
This cigar is by no means a beginners’ cigar by definition, but it sure makes a great way to get into heavier cigars for someone with a bit of experience. It also presents a gateway to get into the shorter, fatter cigars that have become so popular in recent years. Inch Nicaragua pairs well with coffee or full-bodied beer and is appropriate for just about any time of the day. Fans of such fat sticks as Nub Habano or Cain F Nub will definitely be impressed by the stature and flavor profile this cigar has to offer. E.P. Carrillo is one of the best in the business, so you know that any cigar bearing his name is going to be a hit. That being said, what are you waiting for? The time is now to experience one of the hottest new cigars to come out of Nicaragua with E.P. Carrillo Inch Nicaragua No. 70.
