Deadwood Fat Bottom Betty Gordito cigars from Drew Estate are now available nationwide, and for anyone who knows the story, that is kind of a big deal. See, as the story goes, when Jonathan Drew was just getting off his feet in the tobacco business (and struggling to do so), hardly anyone was open to the out-of-the-ordinary sticks he had to offer. He had a tough time finding retailers to carry his radically different tobacco products, which at the time were marketed under his first slogan, “Know Your Direction.” The good news is that there were a handful of select retailers that agreed to do business with Jonathan Drew and his partner, 14 retailers nationwide during his first year or so, to be exact. One of those 14 was the Deadwood Tobacco Company in South Dakota. And boy, did they make a great decision in helping Jonathan out! Fast forward a couple of decades and as one of the absolute biggest names in the cigar business, hugely successful Jonathan Drew and his world-famous Drew Estate Cigar Company, in tribute, decided to make a house blend for the Deadwood Cigar Company, originally named “The Three Yummy Bitches.” This cigar brand gained a huge fan base and became limitedly available throughout certain parts of the country, and now is widely available throughout the U.S. as the Deadwood cigar from Drew Estate. Aromatic maduro wrappers and Nicaraguan fillers, along with innovative sizes and radical packaging, make the Deadwood brand not only unique but also totally awesome!

Dark and oily, Deadwood almost bears a resemblance to dark chocolate. The roll is precisely executed and the construction near flawless. Drew Estate never skimps on quality control, and Deadwood is not by any means an exception. Fat Bottom Betty is a 6” x 60 Gordito that offers a rich, cool smoking experience. An opening blast of sweet cocoa greets the palate, mingled with spicy Nicaraguan pepper and earthy goodness. Maple, nutmeg, and coffee linger in the background, along with faint floral flavors and a touch of incense. Spicy on the finish, Deadwood is full-bodied, smooth, and wonderfully balanced, offering a top-notch smoking experience only Drew Estate can present so wildly. The aroma of Deadwood is similar to fine pipe tobacco, making it a pleasant experience for your company in the room as well.

Drew Estate cigars are usually aimed at seasoned connoisseurs, though sticks like Deadwood are affordable enough to be thoroughly enjoyed by just about anyone. This particular blend is not “infused,” so to speak, but carries a very different flavor profile than you are probably used to. It may be described as a cross between Undercrown and the Natural Series, though each palate may pick up just a few different flavor variations. Deadwood pairs excellent with coffee, dark beer, or even red wine, and makes a great conversation piece to share with friends. Few names in the cigar business have as colorful of a past as Drew Estate. Deadwood Fat Bottom Betty Gordito simply is a delicious reminder of the infamous brand’s humble beginnings.
