Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf Lonsdale Cigars
Master Blender Nick Melillo has been around tobacco all his life, a charmed existence indeed culminating in the remarkable Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf Lonsdale cigar. Gifted with an innate taste for good longleaf, Melillo wasn’t long out of school before finding himself at Drew Estate, where he would rise to VP. The desire to create his own brands necessitated a gracious departure and soon the Foundation Cigar Company was started in the same lush tobacco-growing region of Connecticut where Melillo grew up, which also happens to be the source of the magnificent Broadleaf wrapper that so gracefully covers the rich Nicaraguan filler at the core of each vitola.
It is obvious that a lot of love went into the creation of the Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf Lonsdale, for each solidly-built 6 1/4” x 46 cigar exudes a character that can’t be accounted for simply by the quality of its construction. Or maybe it’s just the heady aroma of sweet cocoa and ripe tobacco that wafts from the shimmering outer leaf. The foot is rolled closed, but the draw through an unlit stick is open enough to provide hints of cedar and dried fruit. Easily lit, this smoke factory of a stick opens semi-sweet with dark chocolate and earth atop more subtle flavors of citrus and hazelnut. Becoming somewhat peppery at the midpoint, this is also where coffee and a touch of caramel enter to keep the strength hovering just above the middle mark.
The low price we have listed for these fine smokes is no typo, ladies and gentlemen. Designed as a bargain cigar from the get-go, the folks at Foundation have simply outdone themselves. A Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf Lonsdale cigar can rise to your most demanding occasion but serves just as well each day with a morning Cup o’ Joe or two (maybe three) fingers of whiskey in the evening. Take advantage of this great deal before we all come to our senses.
