The Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva cigar is a Nicaraguan puro released as part of an effort by Tabacalera Tropical to benefit from their own success. Well known for strict quality control throughout the entire cigar production cycle; Tropical has produced a number of highly-rated smokes for others and the gained experience has resulted in a line of super-premium cigars under their own Casa Fernandez label. The Miami Reserva is one of these chock full of Aganorsa tobaccos from the higher primings, from Seco on up to include the rare Medio Tiempo. Sprouting on less than a quarter of tobacco plants, these two small, sun-soaked leaves are found above the Ligero and impart a unique robustness.
The Miami Reserva has a rugged yet elegant appearance, with a thick and gnarled wrapper that glistens with oils. Proper storage of this cigar is a must to ensure a straight burn from the beginning, but the diligent aficionado will be rewarded with a pleasing draw and mouth-watering plumes of fragrant smoke. The initial flavors are definitively Nicaraguan, rich and spicy, but not harsh. With an initial strength hovering around medium, the cigar begins to pick up strength during the second half when some raisin-like sweetness can be detected against a leathery core. The finish is a full bodied affair that rewards experienced smokers and humbles the rest.
