CAO Gold Maduro Torpedo Cigars
The CAO Gold Maduro Torpedo is a masterclass in how a tapered head and a specific wrapper choice can alter the dynamics of a proven blend. Measuring 6 1/4" x 52, this vitola utilizes the sharp Torpedo tip to concentrate the smoke onto the palate, intensifying the flavors of the Nicaraguan binder and long-filler core. While the original Gold series is defined by its mildness, this Maduro iteration replaces the standard leaf with a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper. This dark, fermented leaf is aged extensively to achieve a high oil content and a rich color, providing a medium-bodied experience that is noticeably more robust and savory than its shade-grown counterpart.
The performance of the Gold Maduro Torpedo is marked by its smooth, voluminous smoke and a sophisticated flavor profile that evolves as the ring gauge expands. Initial notes of toasted nuts and leather are quickly joined by the Maduro wrapper’s signature dark cocoa and espresso sweetness. The tapered head allows the smoker to control the intensity of the draw, while the impeccable construction ensures a slow, even burn that remains cool despite the concentration of flavor. This is an approachable Maduro that maintains a refined balance, making it a suitable choice for those who appreciate a longer, more involved smoking session. It is a versatile cigar that pairs seamlessly with peated scotches, rich porters, or a traditional cafe cubano, proving that a thoughtful change in wrapper and shape can create an entirely new smoking legacy.
