It isn’t every day that a new Camacho is born, but in mid-2020, parent company Davidoff of Geneva USA announced the coming release of Camacho Nicaragua Toro, a cigar that, despite not even being made in Nicaragua, is blended to deliver a true, classic Nicaraguan flavor. This cigar, like many others in the Camacho portfolio, is rolled at Diadema Cigars de Honduras S.A. in Danli, Honduras and is set to be a regular production blend, unlike the handful of specialty lines Camacho has released over the years. As for the recipe, the filler blend contains tobacco from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. A Honduran binder comes next, finished with a golden brown Ecuadorian wrapper leaf. As would be expected, the blend soared to the top soon after its release, even earning a 94 rating in Cigar Aficionado and a well-deserved spot on the magazine’s famed Top 25 list for 2020. Nicaraguan tobacco has not historically been used much in the production of Camacho cigars, so this release definitely offers something for fans of Nicaraguan cigars to get excited about.

Bright orange bands differentiate Camacho Nicaragua from its Honduran counterparts, and the ultra-modern orange and black boxes offer a beautiful presentation. Camacho Cigars has been known to produce some of the best smokers out there, and this example is no different. A clean burn, an easy draw, and copious amounts of rich smoke make the experience beyond enjoyable. Black pepper is the obvious opening note, soon settling into a pleasant bouquet of leather, earth, and creamy tobacco flavor.  A woody overtone hangs around throughout the duration of the cigar, as well as hints of nuts and subtle floral bursts throughout. A touch of coffee on the clean finish rounds out the flavor profile, and by the end of the stick Camacho Nicaragua is just shy of medium-full-bodied, much tamer than the majority of other Camacho concoctions. The Toro size is 6” x 50, both classic and luxurious and offering a lengthy amount of smoking time.

With all its complexity in mind, as well as its top-notch construction, it’s quite easy to see how this stick was a Top 25 finisher. It is enjoyable from every aspect and makes a great choice for smokers of all experience levels, although those with more seasoned palates will better appreciate all the beautiful twists and turns in the profile. Camacho Nicaragua pairs well with bourbon, scotch, or medium-bodied beer and is appropriate for any time of the day. As for comparable cigars, this stick will likely please anyone who has come to enjoy such blends as Romeo y Julieta 1875 Nicaragua or Don Pepin Black Label. For long time Camacho fans or simply lovers of rich Nicaraguan tobacco, it’s a safe bet that Camacho Nicaragua Toro is a cigar that won’t disappoint.
