Cabaiguan Guapos Maduro Single Cigar
The Cabaiguan Guapos Toro Grande Maduro cigar is a slight twist on the original Cabaiguan line. The Cabaiguan Guapos keeps the same Nicaraguan filler and binder but instead of having an Ecuadoran Connecticut shade grown wrapper, it has a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Cabaiguan is the name of Don Pepin's Cuban hometown, and as this is a joint project between he and Pete Johnson of Tatuaje, the name makes sense.
The Cabaiguan Guapos Maduro, 5 5/8" x 54 toro grande, is a medium bodied cigar that features a traditional Cuban pigtail triple cap. These cigars are rolled at the My Father factory in Esteli, Nicaragua which means that they burn and draw really well. The flavors in the 1st third features the famous Nicaraguan pepper spice in the beginning but it tapers off quickly allowing the chocolate flavor of the broadleaf to shine through. There is also a very distinct black cherry flavor present in this first third that is just delicious. The 2nd third brings a bold flavor of cedar and there is a revival of throat warming spice and the Nicaraguan fillers really shine here. The final third of the Cabaiguan Guapos Maduro brings about a small amount of earth that blends well with all the other flavors we've experienced thus far.
All I know is that Don Pepin and Pete Johnson make some great cigars. These may be a little more expensive than I'd like to spend on them but I still find myself picking up a few of these at a time and putting them into my humidor rotation. The Guapos are also available in a natural wrapper.
