#10 Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Cigars

 montecristo-cigars/montecristo-1935-anniversary-nicaragua

When it came time to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the world-famous Montecristo brand, the celebration cigar had to be something special, and Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua certainly fit the bill. Released in late 2020 as a collaboration between brand ambassador Rafael Nodal, the Grupo de Maestros, and none other than the infamous AJ Fernandez, this cigar is extraordinary, to say the least. Each stick is born in the San Lotano Factory in Nicaragua and is rolled under the supervision of Fernandez himself, using 100% Nicaraguan leaves from his very own family farms—wrapper, filler, and binder. It may seem a bit ironic that the anniversary cigar for a Dominican brand is a Nicaraguan puro, but just about anyone would agree that they really did hit it out of the ballpark with this one. The folks at Cigar Aficionado certainly think so, as this blend has already earned a very respectable 95 rating!

Each vitola is softly box pressed and rolled to precision. The elegant gold and black band look lovely against the beautiful dark and oily wrapper leaf. In typical AJ Fernandez fashion, the draw is soft and easy, the smoke production is superfluous, and the flavor is impeccably rich and exciting. An enormous burst of Nicaraguan spice greets the palate on the opening puffs, soon settling down to a bold medley of black pepper, caramel, and cinnamon. Notes of earth and coffee hang in the shadows as a woody core of flavor emerges to take over the blend. A solid level of spice remains throughout the cigar, and the finish is sweet, speckled with light floral notes. Medium-full-bodied and strikingly complex, this cigar is no doubt a connoisseur-level stick. SHOP NOW

#9 Isla del Sol Cigars

 isla-del-sol

Isla Del Sol is an infused cigar from the legendary Jonathan Drew that is tailor-made for those of us who love coffee with our morning smokes. Made in the same factory as the world-famous Acid brand, Isla Del Sol is more of a budget-friendly stick, especially for being a Drew Estate cigar. This is by no means, however, indicative of its quality, as Isla Del Sol definitely shines in that department. Aimed at those folks who want to get into infused cigars but just can't get comfortable with an Acid or Ambrosia, Isla Del Sol is a milder alternative that uses coffee as its main flavor. Precision rolled using premium quality Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, Isla Del Sol is finished with a silky Sumatra wrapper leaf before undergoing the fabled Drew Estate infusion process. It is then finished off with a sweet tip to ensure a well-rounded final flavor.

Isla Del Sol is a mixed filler or "Cuban Sandwich" style cigar, so the draw is going to be on-point each and every time. The pre-light aroma induces a fair amount of mouth-watering, as who wouldn't drool at the smell of tobacco and coffee at the same time? That's just the beginning. Upon first light, an intoxicating room note fills the air, one quite similar to that of aromatic pipe tobacco. The initial flavor is a mix of earthy tobacco and sweet black coffee, soon followed by smooth floral notes and spicy Nicaraguan pepper. The finish is super sweet and quite thick, mostly due to the delicious sweet tip. Overall, Isla Del Sol Sungrown is a mild-medium-bodied gem that will doubtless please just about any fan of flavored cigars. SHOP NOW

#8 Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Cigars

 romeo-y-julieta-cigars/romeo-y-julieta-reserva-real

The Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real is a softer, milder, and creamier version of the classic Romeo Y Julieta we have come to know and love. Going from the original tried-and-true recipe, Altadis introduced a hint of Nicaraguan tobacco into the filler and added more flavor with a Nicaraguan binder. The shining moment with a Reserva Real, though, is the silky, light brown Connecticut-shade Ecuadorian wrapper. The flavor which this wrapper imparts on the cigar is truly transforming. What was once a classic, the Reserva Real feels less like a simple change but a rebirth for a new generation.

Reserva Real is adorned with a beautiful red band reminiscent of the 1875 classic Romeo Y Julieta with an added red and gold secondary band proclaiming the name. This cigar not only looks wonderful, but it smokes just as well. Voluminous puffs of smoke seem to occur almost instantaneously with lighting. Although listed at the mild-to-medium strength scale, the Reserva Real is certainly not lacking in flavor. The burn could not be better, and the draw is smooth and easy all the way to the nub. The only thing we found we wanted with the Reserva Real was more. SHOP NOW

 montecristo-cigars/montecristo-white

The Montecristo White is an epic cigar you'll wish you had tried sooner. Created by a brand that sits at the highest of heights when it comes to tobacco and is handmade in the Dominican Republic by skilled torcedors who have perfected the art of the roll, these elegant vitolas are masterpieces of smooth, rich flavor. Beneath the stark white double bands emblazoned with gold markings, you'll find a flawless Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapped like a warm blanket atop a Nicaraguan binder that expertly contains the premium Dominican and Nicaraguan longleaf filler at the core.

Like standing at the edge of a tobacco field in the warm sun, your senses are greeted by shimmering earth tones and a bright floral aroma as the leathery barrel of a Montecristo White is slipped from its cellophane. A taste of roasted peanut hits the tongue just prior to a flame being applied to the foot, then the lighting puffs bloom with oak and malted milk chocolate. As the burn slowly matures and the sweet spot is consumed, a burst of spice tempered by vanilla cream brings the strength and body to a succulent medium. Steady throughout while bringing out the robust flavors of espresso, buttered rye toast, and raw honey, this is a cigar to be enjoyed by everyone at any time. SHOP NOW

#5 Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne Cigars

 perdomo-cigars/perdomo-reserve-champagne

Odds are, if you've smoked a Perdomo cigar, it was a Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne. Famous for a reason, including but not limited to a stellar 95 rating, it is one of the smoothest, most balanced stogies available anywhere. It's old news by now that Nick Perdomo is one of the most customer-friendly cigar makers out there due to his efforts to keep his smokes affordable by absorbing tax hikes and keeping as much production in-house as possible, and the Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne is no different. Priced about what they have been for years, each is still constructed with a filler and binder grown in dark Nicaraguan soils on Perdomo's own farms, and a true Connecticut shade wrapper seals the deal.

Utterly flawless regardless of which of the numerous vitolas is selected, a triple-fermented and shiny golden outer leaf will set your mouth to water as soon as you feel its silky character and inhale the grassy aroma. Easily lit, the cigar produces mouthfuls of smoke loaded with cream to soothe a secondary black pepper flavor more apparent through a retrohale. Slow and steady puffing ensures a razor-sharp burn, as well as some awesome hints of marzipan and cedar, which keep the profile clean and the experience sublime. You won't want to put it down. #4 Deadwood Cigars

 deadwood

Deadwood Cigars from Drew Estate is now available nationwide, and for anyone who knows the story, that is kind of a big deal. See, as the story goes, when Jonathan Drew was just getting off his feet in the tobacco business (and struggling to do so), hardly anyone was open to the out-of-the-ordinary sticks he had to offer. He had a tough time finding retailers to carry his radically different tobacco products, which at the time were marketed under his first slogan, "Know Your Direction." The good news is that there were a handful of select retailers that agreed to do business with Jonathan Drew and his partner, 14 retailers nationwide during his first year or so, to be exact.

One of those 14 was the Deadwood Tobacco Company in South Dakota. And boy, did they make a great decision in helping Jonathan out! Fast forward a couple of decades, and Jonathan is one of the absolute biggest names in the cigar business, and his now world-famous Drew Estate Cigar Company, in tribute, decided to make a house blend for the Deadwood Cigar Company, originally named "The Three Yummy Bitches." This cigar brand gained a huge fan base and became limited throughout certain parts of the country, and now is widely available throughout the U.S. as the Deadwood cigar from Drew Estate. Aromatic Maduro wrappers and Nicaraguan fillers, along with innovative sizes and radical packaging, make the Deadwood brand not only unique but also totally awesome! SHOP NOW

#3 Oliva Serie V Cigars

 oliva-cigars/oliva-serie-v

The notable Oliva Serie V Cigar is the crown jewel of the Oliva Cigar Company in Nicaragua. For years, if not decades, Oliva has been among the very top suppliers of cigar tobacco in the world. When they decided to start making their own brands of cigars, people started paying more attention. Then, when Serie V was introduced, the entire world of cigars went crazy, and for many years this ultra-premium treat was one of the hardest sticks to get a hold of. Made by the top rollers at Oliva, Serie V consists of Nicaraguan Jalapa Valley ligero fillers, a spicy Nicaraguan binder, and a gorgeous sun-grown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. This is one beast of a cigar, and well, it should be, as it helped start the “powerhouse” cigar movement when tastes went from full-flavored to extremely-full-flavored.

Beginning with a powerful blast of white pepper and unmistakable Nicaraguan spice, this oily flavor bomb shows absolutely no mercy as it transitions into a rich, woody adventure speckled along the way with notes of coffee, cedar, and cocoa. It packs a huge punch, both flavor- and strength-wise, and finishes with a thick slathering of earth across the palate. This could be the finest cigar to ever come out of Nicaragua. SHOP NOW

#2 Tabak Especial Cigars

 tabak-especial

While there are plenty of coffee-flavored cigars on today's market, one continues to stand head and shoulders above the rest: Tabak Especial Cigar. Made at the world-famous La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua under the supervision of none other than the master of flavored cigars himself, Jonathan Drew, Tabak Especial is set apart from the rest in that the tobacco isn't simply flavored but infused. Drew is best known for his flavor infusion process, mainly made popular by his ACID brand, and in this case, he has made a dream come true for coffee-loving cigar smokers worldwide.

The regular production Tabak Especial brand is available in 2 blends, Dulce and Negra. Both contain infused Nicaraguan filler and binder tobacco. For Dulce, the wrapper is an aged shade-grown Connecticut leaf, while the Negra variety sports a dark Connecticut Broadleaf maduro. The two varieties share plenty of similarities in the flavor department, so it basically comes down to whether you are more of a fan of maduro or natural sticks. Either way, Tabak Especial boasts an ideal balance of tobacco and coffee flavor, so even non-fans of flavored cigars will likely enjoy the unique taste. SHOP NOW

#1 Acid Cigars

acid cigars top selling brand

ACID cigars really need no introduction, as for fans of flavored sticks, there is simply no superior. It all started some two decades ago when a young man by the name of Jonathan Drew (you may have heard of him) decided to turn his dreams into reality. ACID is actually an acronym for Arielle Chester Industrial Design, a name decided upon after Jonathan Drew and Acid co-founder Marvin Samel teamed up with artist Scott Chester when the project began. Dedicating everything he had to blend the most amazing flavored cigars the world had ever known, he took risks nobody else dared to. Blending tobacco and simply aging it with flavor enhancers wasn't enough.

After years of trial and error, Drew finally landed on his own patented system of "infusion." This process is long, highly involved, and partially secret. Long story short, the cigars are delicately infused with rich essences of botanicals, oil, and wine, encased in plastic, and stored at lengthy intervals in very cool rooms. The result is a locked-in flavor that doesn't dissipate during the smoking process, as is the case with many flavored cigars, but rather intensifies with each puff. With a multitude of blends all using the patented Drew Estate infusion process, there is a seemingly endless variety of flavors to choose from. SHOP NOW
