That weird in-between time where you’re wearing shorts during the day and a hoodie at night, pumpkin spice is invading your local coffee shop like a seasonal militia, and your neighbor is still grilling like it’s the Fourth of July. In these transitional weeks between the end of summer and fall’s beginning, I reached for a cigar that felt like it could straddle both moods — the Nub Connecticut 464T Torpedo by Oliva.

Let’s start with the obvious: this cigar is short and stubby, kind of like a bulldog. But don’t let its compact size fool you — this little guy punches above its weight class in both flavor and duration. The “464T” means 4 inches long with a 64-ring gauge (yes, 64 — cue funny jokes), and the “Torpedo” head adds a touch of elegance, or at least a practical way to focus the draw and not inhale half the wrapper with your first puff.
The Connecticut wrapper is smooth and silky, the color of a toasted marshmallow. It smells faintly of hay and what I can only describe as “PA smell.”
