Hi everyone!
After a brief break, I am back and ready to get into the swing of things again. I just recently returned from vacationing in my home state of Florida. It was nice to see my family and relax on the beach for a few days. I feel like I am in the transition period after vacation when you just aren’t quite ready to get back to normal yet. Surprisingly, the weather here in Pennsylvania is warmer than in Florida—minus the pretty views and coastal breeze.
Unique Connecticut Wrapper
For my first review back after my break, I am smoking the Romeo y Julieta 1875 Connecticut Nicaragua Toro. This cigar is unique as it has a Connecticut wrapper from Nicaragua—a rare find, as it is typically not seen in the cigar world as often. The “1875” refers to when the Romeo y Julieta cigar brand was established in Cuba. Both the binder and fillers are Nicaraguan, and the cigar comes from the Plasencia Factory in Estelí. The cigar has that typical golden color to it with two bands.
Currently, I am on my patio, somewhat enjoying the outdoors. The heat has been brutal here, even for this Floridian. It has also brought an enormous wave of wasps that I keep having to avoid. The first half of my smoke brings mostly creamy earth tones. Honestly, there isn’t much to notice taste-wise in the first couple of minutes. Towards the halfway point, I start to get an abundance of wood notes and black pepper. It isn’t overwhelming, but still a noticeable difference. At this point, the draw on this cigar is TIGHT. I mean, the resistance is tough and arguably one of the toughest I have ever smoked.
Second Half of the Cigar
By the second half, there is an increase in the black pepper notes without the creaminess. The burn has also started to get wavy, so I have had to touch it up a few times. I have now noticed some citrus notes in the flavor profile, still mixed with the wood flavor. There aren’t a lot of dimensions to this cigar, but it remains consistent throughout. It took me around an hour and a half to completely smoke this cigar. The strength is mild, maybe leaning towards medium with the introduction of the pepper. Honestly, I think I need to smoke this cigar again to see its true potential. The draw really took a toll on the experience and left me questioning how I really felt about it.
